Shadow of the Eternals Kickstarter Pulled, Being Re-Launched in a Few Weeks

June 4, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Precursor may be down, but it’s not out.

Some Kickstarter campaigns just aren’t meant to be. Even if you want a new Eternal Darkness game more than that $20 stuffed into your fat wallet, the prospect of Precursor Games heading the development is just fishy. Thses are the remnants of Silicon Knights, which has been in legal trouble for quite some time due to troubled business practices. It seems like there were plenty of people who just felt too conflicted about the campaign, and thanks to lukewarm support, Shadow of the Eternals is on hold.

At least for a little bit, that is. The simultaneous funding methods were both far from reaching their lofty goals, but the team still wants to continue crafting this spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness.

“Since we announced this Kickstarter campaign we have seen more support from our community than we had ever hoped for. Along with this support has come a host of new exciting opportunities that will make the game better than we envisioned,” the Kickstarter page reads. “As a result, we have chosen to temporarily take down the Shadow of the Eternals crowdfunding campaigns on both Kickstarter and our own website on Thursday, June 6.”

These “exciting opportunities” will need to provide some monetary support, as all of the money that’s been raised up to this point will be refunded to the backers.

“As we’re closing the current Kickstarter campaign not a single dime from this campaign will be removed from supporters’ accounts and everyone from our website’s crowdfunding campaign will receive full refunds via PayPal,” the post continues. “As we re-tool our campaign and continue development, the forums on our site will remain open and active and any interested fans can still join the ‘Order of the Unseen’ to see our progress and join in the fun of creating content for the game themselves.

“This doesn’t mean we are going away — far from it. We’ll be re-launching the Kickstarter in just a few short weeks with a reveal of these exciting new developments.”

It’s been a weird story, and by the look of things, it should only get weirder. Look for the project to make a comeback in the near future.
