The Last of Us Multiplayer Details Suggest Clan-Based Survival Mode

June 3, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Naughty Dog has been quiet about online play in The Last of Us.

Details concerning multiplayer in The Last of Us have apparently been leaked with the information posted on Pastebin suggesting a clan-based survival mode for the game.

The leak, which is extensive, suggests that Naughty Dog has come up with a multiplayer which will focus on a group of NPCs which players can train up in order to keep them alive as they are beset by waves of the infected. These NPCs can die as a result of infection, enemy action and starvation. A number of in-game events will allow players to add members to their NPC clan.

Your clan's health will be determined by how well you perform each round. Players will be tasked with collecting 'Parts' which in turn become 'Supplies' for your team. Clan members can also be dispatched to collect resources or improve their skills; presumably in a similar fashion to the Assassin training system introduced in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

According to the Pastebin notes players will be updated regarding the status of the NPCs they send on mission with messages such as "Gangrene is beginning to set in for [NPC name]" and "[another NPC] is spit-roasting a raccoon."

As part of the game's multiplayer you'll also be able to craft weapons and armour and you'll have access to extensive character customisation options.

Nate Wells, a Naughty Dog artist, has called the online component of The Last of Us "the best multiplayer ever conceived."

The Last of Us is set to be released exclusively for PlayStation 3 on June 14th.
