The official Battlefield Twitter account has revealed that the Bad Company series in not in acitve development with Battlefield 4 being DICE's "main focus for the year".
@slayvapor We love the Bad Company series, but don't have it in active development. Battlefield 4 is our main focus for the year.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the latest entry in the series, was released in March 2010. Since then Battlefield 3 was released in 2011 while Battlefield 4 is set to be launched later this year.
Bad Company 2 has sold nearly six million units to date.
It also seems that DICE are developing Mirror's Edge 2 based on listings of the title on Amazon and an EA help page (since removed) for the game.
While Bad Company includs a hefty does of humour and a strong single player component Battlefield – with its multiplayer focus – is likely better equipped to take on market leader Call of Duty. By November 2011 sales of Battlefield 3 had already topped eight million.
