Metro: Last Light a Commercial Success for Deep Silver

May 31, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Last Light is outselling 2033 by a wide margin.

Although no hard sales figures have been given for 4A Games’ Metro: Last Light, it looks as if the post-apocalyptic shooter performed much stronger than its predecessor. As a matter of fact, a press release sent our earlier today by publisher Deep Silver claims that the game sold more units in its first week than Metro 2033 did in its first three months.

That doesn’t make this the next Call of Duty, but that hasn’t stopped Menno van der Bil, international commercial director at Deep Silver, from showering the game with praise.

“Metro: Last Light is Deep Silver’s most critically acclaimed game to date,” van der Bil said. “We are delighted with the deserved critical and commercial success the game has achieved, and hope that this success represents a statement of intent for future quality titles from Deep Silver. We would like to thank 4A Games for their talent, passion and commitment in helping us reach this milestone.”

The creative folks at 4A Games also had an opportunity to chime in on the game’s success.

“4A Games are honoured by the reception our latest project has received,” said Andrew Prokhorov, creative director at the studio. “We are a small but dedicated team who are lucky to have been given the creative freedom and support to make the kind of experience we dream, as gamers, of playing. Our work on Metro: Last Light continues with new single player DLC, and we look forward to revealing future projects from the team. We want to thank all the Metro fans for support we have received.”

There may be a problem with how the interesting Ranger Mode feature was handled, but it’s tough to not be happy for a developer whose hard work has finally paid off.
