Terraria Coming to Mobile Platforms This Summer

May 31, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

The popular downloadable title is coming to phones and tablets.

Terraria, the side-scrolling sandbox game that leans heavily on crafting and exploration, will be taking its talents to mobile platforms in the near future. Although the project has found a great deal of success on PC, XBLA, and PSN, developer Codeglue will be sharing the love on phones and tablet this summer.

Originally released in 2011 by Re-logic, Tarraria first drew plenty of attention for being a “2D Minecraft.” Many people wrote it off for that fact alone, but the consistent updates and stronger sense of progression allowed the indie game to flourish in its own right. This new version will share many of the same features and environments we’ve seen before, but the core gameplay has been tweaked to accommodate the touch screen.

“Players will discover more than a dozen environments and face treacherous perils including over a hundred twisted foes, magical creatures and villainous bosses,” the press release reads. “The controls have been completely redesigned for touch screens and every aspect of the game has been tweaked and balanced to give players the perfect on the go Terraria experience.”

This mobile version will support leader boards, achievements, and Facebook integration so that all of your creations can be instantly shared with your friends. Yes, there is a new development house behind the wheel this time, but that just means that the team that thought up the idea in the first place may very well be working on something completely different. For now, look to go mobile with Terraria this summer.
