Dragon Age 3 Team Members are also Developing Mass Effect 4

May 30, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Members of the Dragon Age 3 team are also working on the next Mass Effect title.

It should come as no surprise that members of the Dragon Age 3: Inquisition team are also a part of the next Mass Effect team at BioWare. The confirmation was made by the company's spokesperson Chris Priestly on the official BioWare forums.

Answering a question from a fan who inquired as to whether any of DA3's team members would be present as a part of the next Mass Effect, Priestly wrote:

"The way our games at BioWare Edmonton/Montreal work is that there is always a core team. So there is a core Dragon Age team (Mark Darrah, Mike Laidlaw, David Gaider, Matt Goldman, etc) and there is a core Mass Effect team (Casey Hudson, Preston Watamaniuk, Mac Walters, Derek Watts, etc). The core teams don't change between Dragon Age Origins to DA2 to DA3 or ME to ME2 to ME3 (unless someone quits or similar). The next Mass Effect game is being developed at our Montreal studio (with support from Edmonton) and has a new team of mostly Montreal staff. The core ME team is now working on a new IP (and helps Montreal if they need it)."

He added that many of the team members who aren't core team leads, such as the artists, programmers, writers, animators, and QA, all move between projects when they're needed for workload. He cited writer Patrick Weekes as a good example of a writer who works on both Mass Effect and Dragon Age series of games. Weekes is currently writing on Dragon Age 3: Inquisition.

"When DA3 is done, much of the DA3 team will move on to the next Mass Effect game or the new IP depending on where they are needed. That is kind of how we do things here at BioWare."
