Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire – All Ships Info & Best Upgrades

May 10, 2018 by Dennis Patrick

Here are the best ships and upgrades available in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

[Note: This is a work in progress article. Check back for future updates.]

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire is a direct sequel to Pillars of Eternity. The video game will take place within Eora where players step into the role of a Watcher. Our protagonist has the ability to look into other character’s souls along with reading their memories or past lives.

Now that the god of light and rebirth has awoken, players will find that the god has destroyed his stronghold while also leaving him near death. Within the game, our Watcher protagonist seeks to find the god Eothas.

One of the biggest areas to tweak in the game is ships. You’ll find that there are a number of upgrade options along with new ships entire to purchase. If you need a breakdown of the available ships and the best upgrades you can make then check out our guide below.

Available Ships

If you’re looking at purchasing a different ship then you’ll need to head to a dock or find a merchant that deals with ships. However, it seems that neither option will offer any bonuses or discounts to the ship purchase.

From within the game so far, there are four different ships a player can purchase, but this could change in a future update.

Voyager

  • Costs: 20,000cp
  • Hull Health: 50
  • Sail Health: 25
  • Crew: 5 Members

Dhow

  • Costs: 35,000cp
  • Hull Health: 80
  • Sail Health: 40
  • Crew: 7

Galleon

  • Costs: 50,000cp
  • Hull Health: 120
  • Sail Health: 40
  • Crew: 8

Junk

  • Costs: 60,000cp
  • Hull Health: 80
  • Sail Health: 60
  • Crew: 9

Crew

Depending on the ship you own, there are potentially seven different posts a crewmember can take on. These include Boatswain, Helmsman, Navigator, Cannoneer, Surgeon, Cook, and lastly, Deckhand.

Now it’s worth knowing what characters are in charge of different posts because during battles if a crewmember is unable to continue on during battle, players will have to assign another character to the post, but only if they wish to use the post duties to their advantage.

Upgrades

You can make several upgrades on your ship but if you’re looking for the best options available then we suggest looking below.

Cannons

Dyrwoodan Hog Nose

While there are other notable cannons to choose, the Drywoodan Hog Nose only takes three turns to load and offers a range of up to 400m. Likewise, the damage is about average in comparison to some of the other heavy hitters. While something like the Imperial Long Gun could deal a damage of up to 9, the Drywoodan Hog Nose can reach a damage of 7.

Sails

Dragonwing

The Dragonwing sail can increase the combat speed of 10m along with a 10% overall travel speed increase. Lastly, the sail health will increase by 15 which make the Dragonwing a perfect upgrade.

Hulls

Blackwood

The Blackwood Hull upgrade seems to be the best so far. This upgrade will increase your combat speed by 15m, an additional 15 in Hull Health along with a 5% increase in the travel speed.

Cosmetics

When it comes to the design of your ship, you can adjust the look of your boat through some cosmetic upgrades. These upgrades can offer additional areas to your ship such as a new living space or a pen to store pets. While they are not a necessity, you may want to check the different aesthetic options for your ship.
