UPDATE: Microsoft has informed Edge that Spencer's comments were in relation to the Xbox 360 not the Xbox One. At the current point in time Microsoft are still negoiating with Sky and Canal+ to bring those services to Xbox One.
ORIGINAL STORY: Microsoft has signed a deal with Sky and Canal+ to show television content on Xbox One in Europe the company has told Edge.
"We have partnerships with Sky (in the UK), with Canal+ in France, and we'll continue to grow our international expansion," Microsoft Studios president Phil Spencer commented. "We'll put a worldwide face on the platform because Europe, in particular, is especiall important to us this generation.
"We want the world to watch television through this box," Spencer concluded.
Microsoft's focus on Europe is likely a result of the fact that while the Xbox 360 has performed well in the UK it has consistently lagged behind the PS3 in continental Europe. Previously, it was reported that Microsoft's drive to increase its market share in Europe has resulted in Sony being "prepared to do whatever it takes" to avoid a delay in launching the PS4 in the region.
When Microsoft announced the Xbox One earlier this week they spent much of their hour long presentation on television services. The company has signed a deal with the NFL worth $400 million to bring exclusive content to Xbox One and a Halo TV series directed by Steven Spielberg was also announced.
Sky and Canal+ are already available on Xbox 360. We'll likely know more about additional TV services for other countries closer to the system's launch later this year.
