Dishonored Producer Explains His Job to His Mom

May 13, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

Seth Shain tries to explain why work makes him too busy to take his mother’s calls.

Just in time for Mother's Day, Bethesda has published a pretty funny video in which Dishonored producer Seth Shain talks to his mother – Joanne Davis – about what he does at Arkane Studios. Of course, first she has to tell the camera who she is and let the audience know that Seth is “the unexpected son” of her three sons. Seth asks her if she knows what it is he does, to which she replies:

“Well, clearly I really don't have any idea what you do, but I know you love what you do.”

The only thing Joanne does know about her son's work is that he is always very busy, to the extent that she should only call him more than once in a day if somebody has died.

She has apparently also seen some of the things that Seth has created, such as Dishonored, which Seth's brother would not let her play because he doesn't think she'd be capable. Seth obviously takes issue with this, presumably because Dishonored is a pretty easy game if all you want to do is finish it, and because it would be quite nice for him if his mom got to actually experience what he spent years helping to create.

“I think that's unfair,” he says, before recommending she plays it on easy mode.

“Easy mode for the geriatric?” She asks.

Apparently Joanne is not completely clueless when it comes to games, however, as she is keen to point out that she has a copy of Dishonored: Rat Assassin on her iPhone. Unfortunately, Seth has to inform her that he did nothing for the Rat Assassin game whatsoever.
