UPDATE: A teaser trailer for Gran Turismo 6 has now been released promising "something big" for May 15th. The trailer can be seen through the link.
ORIGINAL STORY: Sony has issued invites to a special Gran Turismo event next week where it's likely that the next entry in the series, Gran Turismo 6, will be revealed promising attendees that there will be "special announcements".
Posted on NeoGAF the invitation shows that the event will be held at the Silverstone Formula 1 Circuit in the UK next Wednesday, May 15th.
"Join us to celebrate 15 years of Gran Turismo, and discover exciting announcements about its future" the invite reads and also includes the #15YearsofGT Twitter hashtag.
It's expected that Polyphony Digital's next game will be a PlayStation 3 title despite the PS4's launch being on the horizon although the game could be a cross-gen racer.
Sony executive Michael Denny told SiliconRepublic earlier this year that gamers would see Gran Turismo 6 on PS3 in 2013 while several retailers have listed the game on Sony's current console.
While Sony announced Drive Club for PS4 back in February it seems likely that the company's veteran racer series will migrate to the next console at some point. PlayStation systems usually also launch with a Wipeout title although traditional developer Sony Studio Liverpool closed last year.
Though little is known about the game Kazunori Yamauchi, the series' creator, announced the game in a 2010 interview.
