‘Rayman Legends’ Mariachi Madness Level is Set to Eye of the Tiger

May 7, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

Run and jump in time to the music.

Ubisoft has a new trailer up for its upcoming game Rayman Legends, sequel to the brilliant Rayman Origins. The trailer only features one level, and yet it'll be enough to convince a lot of fans of this kind of colourful 2D platformer, as that level – “Mariachi Madness” – is cleverly set to a mariachi version of Eye of the Tiger. Not only is the song compelling enough on its own, but the physical movement of the player character (or characters, if your co-op partners can keep up with you) through the level is designed to keep in time with the music, with an approaching wall of flames intended to ensure that hesitation will lead to death rather than dissonance.

The level is constructed in a similar way to the “Castle Rock” level, which is featured in the demo and the Challenges App that was released to Wii U owners at the end of last month. It's possible that Ubisoft has created this “Mariachi Madness” level in response to the praise it's received for “Castle Rock”, potentially as one of the 30 new levels it has promised in order to make up for the delay brought on only by a desire to release the game on PS3 and Xbox 360 instead of – as was originally planned – as an exclusive for the Wii U.

Fans still have a while to wait before they can try out the “Mariachi Madness” level for themselves, as Rayman Legends isn't due to launch for PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U until September 3 (and potentially for Vita at some point too).
