Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen Debuts Big in Japan

May 6, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Capcom’s re-release of this popular 2012 game has found great success.

The re-release of Capcom’s action-packed, open-world adventure, Dragon’s Dogma, has hit it big in the Land of the Rising Sun. Subtitled Dark Arisen, this mishmash of the original game and new enemies, quests, locations, weapons, and armors came in second on the charts for the week of April 22.

The update on the Media Create sales list has the PS3 version of the game sitting pretty at second place with 125,363 units sold, while the Xbox 360 version struggled at 13th place with 9,483 units moved. Of course, the lack of Microsoft consoles in the region has much to do with that low number. Surprisingly, the game that beat out Dark Arisen and claimed the top spot was Friend Collection: New Life for the 3DS, which sold 144,903 units.

Some other games made the list that are worth discussing. Although they may not carry the same excitement for Eastern gamers as as they do for those who reside in the West, both BioShock Infinite and Tomb Raider made their Japanese debuts during the same week. The PS3 version of Tomb Raider came in at fourth place with 35,250 units sold, while the PS3 version of BioShock Infinite reached the 10th spot with 15,747 units sold.

The full list of games can be seen below:

1. Friend Collection: New Life / Nintendo / 3DS / 144,903

2. Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen / Capcom / PS3 / 125,363

3. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon / Nintendo / 3DS / 38,884

4. Tomb Raider / Square Enix / PS3 / 35,250

5. Steins;Gate: Senkei Kousoku no Phonogram / 5pb. / PS3 / 34,292

6. Animal Crossing: New Leaf / Nintendo / 3DS / 31,711

7. PhotoKano Kiss / Kadokawa Games / PS Vita / 30,172

8. Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon Portable / Kadokawa Games / PSP / 26,030

9. Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 / Namco Bandai / PS3 / 17,836

10. BioShock Infinite / Take-Two Interactive Japan / PS3 / 15,747

Not only did Dark Arisen sell well, but we also think it has the freshest take on multiplayer since the Souls games.
