South Park: The Stick of Truth Still Releasing in 2013

May 3, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

It’s been dark the past few months, but The Stick of Truth is still on its way.

Both fans of the South Park TV show and those who appreciate the RPG expertise of Obsidian Entertainment were abuzz when THQ revealed The Stick of Truth. An expansive RPG set in this popular, crude universe, the South Park game was seemingly turning out to be one of the most anticipated titles of the year. The closure of THQ and IP purchase by Ubisoft has put the project’s status into question, but for the first time in a long time, a spokesman close to the project has supplied the public with some solid information.

It was VideoGamer.com who contacted Ubisoft about the colorful game after realizing that it was absent from the publisher's latest release update sent to media on Monday. Even though we’ve neither seen nor heard anything about the project in the last few months, the Ubisoft representative did confirm that it’s "scheduled for release in calendar 2013."

It may seem like ages ago, but South Park: The Stick of Truth was acquired by the French publisher for $3.2 million following THQ's closure earlier this year. Since it’s being developer on current-generation hardware, it’s almost necessary for the game to launch before the expected November stampede of next-gen products. However, the situation remains a mystery to most. For all we know, the hush on information could be due to the team shifting gears and making the project a cross-generation release.

For now though, just enjoy the box art that was released a few months ago and hope that the 2013 date is accurate.
