Beyond: Two Souls Will Last 10 Hours

April 29, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Cage expects players to see the main story of Beyond in about 10 hours.

Players interested in Quantic Dream’s upcoming story-driven title, Beyond: Two Souls, better be prepared for a long ride. The story of Jodie Holmes may resemble what’s been seen on the big screen, but the interactive drama will span at least 10 hours of solid gameplay.

This information was revealed during a special Beyond: Two Souls event at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, where Quantic Dream head David Cage discussed many facts related to the upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive. Information was accompanied by a 30-minute trailer, which began with Jodie in a phone booth, calling Nathan Dawkins, the paranormal specialist played by Willem Dafoe. A chunk of the character’s story is explored in the video, but anyone planning on experiencing the game’s narrative when it actually releases may want to sit this one out.

Another interesting nugget of information was revealed when the topic of game completion was broached. Although, on average, only 20 percent of players make it to the end of a typical game, Cage claimed that 75 percent of those who started his team’s last project, Heavy Rain, finished it.

“Heavy Rain for example–that was really story-driven–the figure was 75 percent,” Cage said. “And so because people wanted to see the end, they wanted to know what would happen next… all this was very important.”

Hopefully there’s enough drama and interesting gameplay to drive even more players to the end of Beyond. Look to dig in to Quantic Dream’s next epic on the PlayStation 3 Oct. 8.
