Epic’s Global Marketing Head Leaves Company, Now With Microsoft

April 26, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

After a three-year career with Epic, Kendall Boyd has moved on to work with Halo.

Kendall Boyd, the man who’s acted as director of worldwide marketing at Epic Games since April 2010, has left the company. Instead of moving on to work in a new field, Boyd will be manning a similar marketing role for one of the largest entertainment franchises in the industry: Halo.

"We can confirm that Kendall Boyd has joined Microsoft Studios as Director of Halo Global Marketing. We're thrilled to welcome him into the Halo fold, but have no other details to share at this time," a Microsoft representative told GameIndustry International.

Microsoft wasn’t the only party involved to speak on Boyd’s departure.

"Yes, Kendall Boyd has left Epic Games to join our long-time partner Microsoft. We wish him well on his new adventure. We aren't announcing our plans for the role right now," an Epic spokesperson said.

Along with his duties on games like Gears of War and Infinity Blade, Boyd has been managing the marketing relationships between Epic and leading companies like Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and Apple for some time. So, it’s safe to say that he’s gained a few connections over his three-year stint with Epic.

Bad news seems to be following Epic as of late. The closing of Impossible Studios, the retirement of Mike Capps, and the departure of leading man Cliff Bleszkinski are just a few of the major changes that have occurred in the past year. Recently, it was also revealed that Gears of War: Judgment underperformed in terms of units sold, showing signs of what looks to be franchise fatigue.
