Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has been appointed as CEO of Nintendo America with current CEO Tatsumi Kimishima becoming the firm's global managing director based out of Kyoto.
The company has performed relatively well in North America according to Nintendo's latest financial results with 1.52 Wii U's sold in the region compared to 920,000 in Japan and one million in all other regions, including Europe which declined to become Nintendo's third larget market behind Japan in second and North America in first.
As part of Kimishima's new role Nintendo's current general managers Yoshihiro Mori of corporate analysis & Masaharu Matsumoto of administration and general affairs will resign as their duties are assumed by Kimishima.
Nintendo of America's chief operation officer and president Reggie Fils-Amie will now report directly to Iwata.
Kimishima joined Nintendo Japan in 2000 before becoming Pokemon America president in 2001 and Nintendo of America CEO in 2006.
There's no word yet of any changes in Europe but given Nintendo's poor performance in the region the status quo will likely change before long.
