Other Sega Pluto Surfaces, Up For Grabs Via Online Auction

April 22, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

And of course it was found at a flea market for just a buck.

Remember last week's report of the Sega Pluto, the ill-fated combination of a Sega Saturn plus a NetLink modem adapter? Specifically how it was unearthed after all these years from a former Sega employee and that only two exist?

Well, just a few days later, the other unit has surfaced. And where does this other unit hail from? Where all ultra rare artifacts of gaming can generally be found of course (other than Goodwills that is): at a flea market.

According to Destructoid, the owner nabbed it about five or six years ago for just one dollar. Here's a video of it in action:

Whereas the owner of the first Pluto was not able to fully test his unit, since it only accepts American Saturn games and he's in Japan (though it is assumed to be in fine working condition), we can see that this second Pluto runs games just fine. The only real issue is that the drive door will not stay down, requiring some foreign object to keep it closed and for games to start running.

In the video, the owner also states that he plans on putting it up for auction, and that turns out to be the case. Though instead of using eBay, he's using GameGavel, a marketplace that's specifically geared towards rare and obscure video game goods.

The starting big was $1.00 and after just three bids, it's already up to $7,600. Which, come to think of it, is a rather low price for one of the most rarest piece of video game tech in existence. Point being, it will probably end much higher than that.
