Activision's community manager Dan Amrich has hinted that the next Call of Duty game will be unveiled before E3 in June.
Speaking to the game's fans on YouTube Amrich said "We're still in the middle of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 cycle and there's still a lot more content to come, so you can understand why Activision hasn't really talked about next year yet, but they're going to have to soon because E3 is coming up."
Amrich noted that Modern Warfare 3 was first revealed in May 2011 while Black Ops was unveiled in May 2012.
"If you're looking for information on the future, it's coming soon, it's just no here yet, it should be here no later than E3. We also have the interesting problem of new hardware coming in. We're got a PS4, we've got whatever Xbox is working on – is that going to be this year? I don't know," he added.
Last year the CV of an Infinity Ward developer hinted that the next game in the series would be produced for both current and next-gen consoles.
It has been rumoured that the next game will not be Modern Warfare 4 but rather Call of Duty: Ghosts. It's 52 days until E3 (yes, there's a countdown and everything) so we should know more before too long. Call of Duty titles also usually get a segment in Microsoft's Xbox media briefing during E3 though whether this year's will be demoed on Xbox 360 or Xbox 720 remains to be seen.
