Steve Wozniak, Co-Founder of Apple, King of Tetris

April 16, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

AKA, Evets Kainzow.

Steve Wozniak usually goes by the Woz, though he's mostly known as the other Steve. Him and his counterpart founded a little company you might have heard of: Apple Computers.

Though what's not as well known is how the Woz is one of the best Tetris players of all time. In the following clip, produced by Game Informer, he explains, among other things, how Nintendo Power was so sick and tired of publishing his high scores, the Woz had to pass along a fake name:

Even though the Woz was not directly involved in most of Apple's greatest inventions… the iMac, the iPod, the iPhone, and the iPad… he's still a cherished figurehead of the company and all around beloved tech guy, and the video above is proof positive of this fact.

Perhaps the best part is hearing how he got the chance to meet the then leader of Russia, Mikhail Gorbachev, undeniably one of the greatest minds of the 20th century, but the Woz was far more nervous meeting the creator of Tetris (Alexey Pajitnov).

Also, bonus points for Woz's super cool Game Boy Light, which was never sold in the United States. The guy clearly is a hardcore player indeed. Though the bit about him playing Tetris with a pal, via the link cable, whenever they went to see live music? Okay, that’s a bit on the weird side.

BTW, it’s also worth noting the Woz’s connection to another classic game: the Woz was of the original architects of the Atari classic Breakout.
