Senator Dianne Feinstein (D – Cal.) has claimed violent videogames can act as "simulators" for would-be mass murderers in an interview with MSNBC's Morning Joe show.
"I think the really violent videogames become a kind of simulator to practice on. And it enables the individual to become much more familiar with that depiction of death and blood," the Democratic senator commented referencing the often exaggerated nature of violence and death within games.
"Of course it's not the way it is in real life," she added.
Last week Feinstein said violent games fulfil "a very negative role for young people, and the industry ought to take note of that."
Feinstein follows fellow California Democratic senator Leland Yee who previously told gamers to "quiet down" in the gun violence debate because they "have no credibility in this argument." Yee later apologised for his remarks.
Feinstein's comments come in light of the gun control argument which erupted following the Sandyhook school tragedy in December. The shooter in that incident has been referred to as a "deranged gamer."
