SimCity Coming to Mac on June 11

April 11, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

PC and Mac owners can play together.

EA has finally announced a release date for the Mac version of SimCity, revealing that the game will be available as a digital download through the new Origin for Mac service on June 11. While some players might be more than a little annoyed at having to buy the game through Origin, the good news is that purchasing a copy on either PC or Mac will allow you to play it on both formats. If you've already bought SimCity for PC, you'll get a free digital download of the game on Origin for Mac.

EA has gone one step further with its multi-platform decision, too, as people will be able to play together across the same servers even if some are using PCs and some are using Macs. Lucy Bradshaw, the Senior Vice President and General Manager of Maxis, has the following statement:

“SimCity is coming to Mac on June 11 and one purchase will give you both the Mac and PC versions. You only need to buy SimCity once to play together across the same servers, regardless of which version you’re playing. We didn’t want to make any compromises when it came to the Mac so we created a native version that is optimized for the hardware and OSX.”

EA would also like you to know that more than 1.3 million units of the game have been sold on PC since launch, presumably to convince you that the issues the game has suffered haven't adversely affected its success. Will you risk getting a copy for your Mac?
