Sega Cancels Wii U Version of Aliens: Colonial Marines

April 6, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

The disappointing game will no longer come to Nintendo’s platform.

Sega has dropped its plans to bring Aliens: Colonial Marines to the Wii U, it has confirmed to IGN. A representative from Sega sent a statement to the site that couldn't have put it more clearly:

“SEGA can confirm that the Wii U sku of Aliens: Colonial Marines is no longer in development.”

Furthermore, Game Informer received a longer statement from Sega that looks like it explains the decision but actually just bulks the same sentiment out with some business speak:

“We are constantly looking at all areas of our business and in this case have made the decision to not continue development of the Wii U version. Rest assured that we have some fantastic developments for Wii U in the pipeline which we will announce at a later date.”

The statement that other Sega games will come to the Wii U, however, does seem to suggest that the publisher's problem is not with the console – though the Wii U has undoubtedly suffered from lack of interest – but with the game. It's really no surprise; although the game debuted at the top of the UK charts when it launched on the other platforms, it received a poor response from critics and fans, due partially to the fact that its trailers didn't represent the final game (which is why Sega has agreed to add disclaimers).

Randy Pitchford must be disappointed, since he said last year that the Wii U version of the game would have “so much more to offer” than the others. But do you think that anyone else will be upset? Are you?
