Fortnite Hit 3.4 Million Concurrent Players February 4th

February 9, 2018 by Jordan Coetsee

Fortnite stays killing it.

Epic Games Fortnite has been absolutely killing it of late – from sensing an opportunity from the Battle Royale genre last year, the Studio introduced Fortnite Battle Royale, the first console take on the 100 man free-for-all which skyrocketed numbers. What’s more, it was released for free, ensuring that nobody was left out of the bloodbath.

Now the developer has just hit it’s the latest record, 3.4 million concurrent players on February 4th, making it, as Epic Games has stated, “perhaps the biggest PC/console game in the world”.

Going into a little bit more detail over on their blog, the extreme load of concurrent players caused six different “incidents” over the past weekend. Some of which were account service outage and XMPP outage to cloud capacity limits and throttling. You can read about it, here.

‘Fortnite hit a new peak of 3.4 million concurrent players last Sunday… and that didn’t come without issues!  This blog post aims to share technical details about the challenges of rapidly scaling a game and its online services far beyond our wildest growth expectations.’

Fortnite is out now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Thoughts on this impressive milestone? Let us know in the comments down below.
