Spec Ops: The Line on Sale on EU PSN but Only if You Buy Duke Nukem Forever Too

April 3, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

Grab both games for £20.

For those of us in the EU, Sony has announced the fourth deal in its “PlayStation Store Egg Hunt”, an Easter-themed sale that started on the 27th of March and will run until the 9th of April. Each offer is only available for 48 hours, and today's will expire at 11:59am tomorrow (the 4th of April), so if you don't see this tonight and you happen to be a late riser, sorry.

Then again, you may not even think it's worth it. Today's deal gets you a bundle that – for some bizarre reason – combines Spec Ops (presumably that means Spec Ops: The Line) and Duke Nukem Forever. They have made it look really, really cheap, bringing the price down from a “was” of €79.98 (or £65.98) to €24.99 (or £19.99), but most people agree that Duke Nukem Forever at least is a terrible game. After more than a dozen years in development, the final product was a disappointing relic that didn't even manage to get the nostalgia factor right.

Spec Ops: The Line seemed to do better (though it would be difficult not to). Its Metacritic rating is around 76 across the three platforms, which is much better than the 49/51/54 rating that Duke Nukem Forever currently has. The strange thing is the combination of the two games, which seem so very different. Duke Nukem Forever thrives on violence, and Spec Ops: The Line wants to get us to consider that very fact about games in general. Brendan Keogh even wrote a book about it, which I doubt would be plausible with Duke Nukem Forever.

Is Sony being naïve here? Or is it trying to get you to buy a crappy game by packaging it with a better one? Are you even remotely tempted to buy a copy?
