BioShock Infinite Soars to the Top of the UK Charts

April 3, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

But Tomb Raider is still the biggest launch of the year so far.

The UK video games charts for last week are in, and BioShock Infinite has naturally found itself at the top of the list. According to UKIE, the game has outsold BioShock 2 by nearly 9,000 copies and now holds the record for biggest week-one launch for a BioShock title. However, one title the game does not hold is “biggest week-one launch of the year”, as that has been retained by Tomb Raider.

Speaking of Tomb Raider, the reboot is still in second position in the charts thanks to price promotions that boosted the number of copies sold by 42% on last week's figures, The continued success of Tomb Raider means that Gears of War: Judgment (last week's number one) has slipped down to third, with FIFA 13 still in fourth.

Luigi's Mansion 2, which was also new last week, has done pretty well for a single-format game to make it into the top five. Though it hasn't manage to outdo the original Luigi's Mansion, which debuted at number three back in 2002, it has managed to beat another new entry in Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 14 was also new, but only managed to make it to number eight, just below Call of Duty: Black Ops II and above Assassin's Creed III.

Even more new titles didn't even make it into the top ten. LEGO City: Undercover only got to number twelve, though that's perhaps impressive for a game that only launched on the underselling Wii U. Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, which has been out in the U.S. for a while but only recently launched in the U.K., almost missed out on the top 40 altogether as it quietly entered the charts at number 31.
