Skullgirls Campaign Over, Nearly $830k Raised

March 28, 2013 by David Nguyen

Skullgirls’ indiegogo campaign comes to a close at $829,829.

With little over one minute left in their indiegogo campaign, Lab Zero Games reached their $825,000 goal. This means that they’ve received enough funding to work on a 2nd DLC character who will be voted upon, just like the previous $600k DLC character. This monumental success was much needed for Lab Zero Games, as their publisher, Autumn Games, have been going through expensive legal troubles. Autumn Games no longer had the means to support Skullgirls, so Lab Zero Games decided to try crowdfunding to keep their team together. The support from fans has been so overwhelming that Lab Zero Games had to add new milestones regularly because their previous goals were repeatedly surpassed.

The goals that have been met include:

·         $150,000 – ‘Squigly’ Character DLC

·         $175,000 – Squigly’s Stage and Story Mode

·         $375,000 – ‘Big Band’ Character DLC

·         $400,000 – Big Band Stage and Story Mode

·         $600,000 – Fan-Voted Mystery DLC Character

·         $625,000 – DLC Character’s Stage and Story Mode

·         $725,000 – ‘Robo-Fortune’ Character DLC

·         $750,000 – Robo-Fortune’s Stage and Story Mode

·         $825,000 – Second Fan-Voted Mystery DLC Character

Another developer also benefited from Lab Zero Games’ campaign. Once Skullgirls’ crowdfunding reached $725k, Lab Zero Games allowed Mane6 (developers of the My Little Pony fighting game) to use the Skullgirls fighting engine, free of charge. This allows Mane6 to build more palettes for each character, give the game widescreen and HD resolution support, real-time shadows, and many other benefits.

So congratulations all around to Lab Zero Games and Mane6. Not only is it amazing to see fans rally around their favorite developers to this extent, it’s also great to see indie developers help one another like this as well.
