Double Fine Adventure Gets a Name, Website

March 25, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

Find out more about the Kickstarter record breaker.

Double Fine has finally revealed the title of its upcoming Kickstarter-funded game, previously known as “Double Fine Adventure”. The point-and-click adventure will be called Broken Age, and will follow two characters – a young boy and a young girl – on what seem to be two separate adventures, though presumably they'll intertwine somehow.

Here's the full description from the new website for the game:

“Broken Age is a point-and-click adventure telling the stories of a young boy and girl leading parallel lives. The girl has been chosen by her village to be sacrificed to a terrible monster–but she decides to fight back. Meanwhile, a boy on a spaceship is living a solitary life under the care of a motherly computer, but he wants to break free to lead adventures and do good in the world. Adventures ensue.”

Broken Age is one of the big Kickstarter success stories. It reached its original goal of $400,000 within a day of the launch of the campaign, breaking a record for most funds raised in 24 hours, and then went on to make a total of $3,336,371. It was originally supposed to come out around October last year, but given the increased funds Double Fine extended the development period so as to be able to produce a better game.

We can expect Broken Age to arrive some time this year, and you can already preorder the game through the website. For $15 you'll get the a DRM-free copy of the game for PC, Mac, and Linux, and beta access when that's available. For $30, you'll get all of the above plus backer access, which gives you access to private backer-only forums and all episodes of the ongoing documentary series from 2Player Productions that follows the development of the game.

Did you back Broken Age? How does it sound from the description above?
