Ken Levine Quashes Rumor Bioshock Infinite Cost $200 Million

March 22, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Irrational boss takes to Twitter to deny exorbitant cost of Bioshock Infinite.

Irrational's Ken Levine has dismissed claims Bioshock Infinite, due to be released next week, has a combined marketing and production budget of $200 million on Twitter.

The rumours, which originally circulated in a New York Times article, stated unnamed analyst expectations that the estimated cost of development for the game is $100 million with an additional $100 million dedicated by 2K for marketing.

Levine said "200 million for Infinite? Did someone send some checks to the wrong address?"

While Levine's tweet denies Infinite has such a high cost it has undoubtedly set 2K and Irrational back a significant amount. The most expensive game of all time is believed to be BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic which is thought to have cost EA as much as $200 million purely for the game's development, the subscription based MMO then went free-to-play after less than a year past launch.

Grand Theft Auto IV, another 2K published title, is believed to have cost $80-$100 million. A 2K representative refused to comment to GameSpot on the actual cost of Bioshock Infinite.

Bioshock Infinite will be launced on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC from March 26th. You can check out more of Gameranx's coverage of the game here.
