New Dota 2 Tournament From Down Under Announced

March 21, 2013 by Declan Skews

Down Under Esports League announce a new tournament with a AUD$1500 prize pool.

Dota 2 Tidehunter

The Australia-based Down Under Esports League (DUEL) have announced the sign-ups for their next Dota 2 tournament, Tide's Wrath, which will run from April 3. Whilst the tournament is geared towards teams competing from the South East Asia and Australasian regions, the competition is open to participants from around the world. A note on the forum does specify that all matches will occur by default on the South East Asia, or Australia server clusters as the majority of teams competing in the tournament are from those regions.

The tournament announcement states that group stages will begin April 3 and conclude on April 12, with 32 teams advancing to compete for a chance at one of 4 spots open in the grand finals. These 4 teams will be joined by another 4 teams who have been invited from last years' tournament. The tournaments winners will take home a sizeable AUD$1000, with second place netting themselves AUD$400 and third place securing AUD$100.

The tournament announcement comes hot on the heels of the news that Dota 2 now has the highest average concurrent player count of any game on Steam, over-taking even the behemoth that is The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. For those who still don't have a Dota 2 key and would like to get their hands on one so that they too can participate in future tournaments, here are some instructions on how to go about acquiring a key from a handy dispenser bot.
