Age Of Empires: Definitive Version Launches February

January 19, 2018 by Jordan Coetsee

Make sure you sign up for the beta!

Following a massive delay right before the originally scheduled date last year, Microsoft will finally be launching Age of Empires: Definitive Edition on February 20 at £14.99 / €19.99.

“When we set out to re-release the original Age of Empires, we had many debates over the extent of restoration that we should undertake…it’s a classic and it deserves to be treated with careful reverence,” they said in a blog post. “At the same time, in a living, thriving genre, norms continually evolve, technology advances, and player expectations change. This is as true for RTS as for any other genre.

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition will support 4K resolution, online play through Xbox Live, new campaign narration for every mission, a re-recorded orchestral score, and an improved campaign and scenario editor. It’s available for preorder now for $20 on the Microsoft Store.

If you can’t wait till February 20th though, there is actually a semi open-beta that you can try your hand at. Signups will be taken until January 25 at ageofempires.com, and the beta will go live on January 29.

Excited to finally get your hands on the this remaster for the original Age of Empires? Let us know in the comments down below.
