It seems almost ages ago since we last heard of the HD remastered edition of Final Fantasy X (since Tokyo Game Show 2011 to be exact), which is slated for both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. But according to a rumor that was first published by Shonen Jump Magazine in Japan, there might actually be a reason for the long wait.
Apparently, included on the same disc will be an HD remastered version of Final Fantasy X-2. Series diehards might recall that game being the very first direct sequel to a Final Fantasy that Square Enix has ever produced. It's perhaps worth nothing that X-1 was the very last Final Fantasy game that was produced by Square before it merged with Enix.
Furthermore, both versions of the game will be the international versions. These are the re-released versions of the game, which were based upon the Western versions. Meaning, it also includes English voice-overs, new game content that wasn't ready for the original Japanese release, bonus material that includes concept art, interviews, and trailers, plus assorted tweaks and bug fixes.
When saying that both games will be on the same disc, we speak of the PS3 version. So what about the Vita version? Apparently, both games will be separate downloads.
Further details is not available, but it is assumed that the inclusion of X-2 is the reason for why it’s taking so long for X-1 to finally arrive make its HD arrival.
Many believe the Vita release in particular is quite important; Final Fantasy X was hugely popular in Japan, and the belief is that a Vita port will help that system’s standing, which as noted many times already, is not nearly as good as it could be.
