Hollow Knight: How to Get Geo Super Fast | 5k+ Cash Farming Guide

December 26, 2017 by Kevin Thielenhaus

If you picked up the indie classic Hollow Knight cheap on the Steam Sale, you might want to stock up on in-game currency quick. Here’s how to farm it fast.

Hollow Knight is one of the best Metroidvanias of 2017, and it’s jam-packed with awesome secret stuff that’s worth unlocking and investigating even after you’ve completed the main story. Whether you’re new to Hollow Knight or returning thanks to all the free updates, it’s always a good time to stock up on Geo, the currency you’ll need to buy just about everything.

Getting Geo can be a slow process, so if you’re hungry for huge amounts — to the tune of 5,000 Geo every 15 minutes. You don’t have to get too far in the game, and this particular method gets you Geo faster than anything else. It’s all about hunting the creepy Carver Hatchers in the Deepnest area. Don’t worry, you don’t have to actually enter the Deepnest to complete cash farming runs.

How to Get Geo Super Fast | 5k+ Cash Farming Guide

Before we can begin cash farming, you’ll need to fulfill a few requirements — that includes abilities and an optional suggested loadout. You’ll also need to be able to reach the upper levels of the Deepnest.

  • Requirements:
    • Wall-Grapple (Mantis Claw)
    • Dash (Cloak)
    • Access to Deepnest, Failed Tramway
  • Optional Requirements:
    • Fragile / Unbreakable Greed Charm (Enemies drop more Geo.)
      • Purchase Greed Charms from Leg Eater, a vendor at the Forgotten Crossroads, in the northern part of the Fungal Wastes.

Once you have a Greed Charm and have the Failed Tramway area unlocked for the Deepnest, you can begin running through the area for fast Geo.

  • Farming Guide:
    1. Go to the Failed Tramway in the northern part of the Deepnest. Find the bench on the right side — start your run from the bench. Rest at the bench between runs to respawn enemies.
    2. The area to the left of the bench features 6 Carver Hatchers. These are creepy monsters that spawn 5 smaller minions each. Essentially, you’ll want all 6 Carver Hatchers to give birth to 5 minions each — so the run includes 6 Carver Hatchers and a total of 30 Dirtcarvers.
    3. Each Carver Hatcher drops Geo, and each Dirtcarver will also drop Geo. With the Greed Charm equipped, you’ll earn 32 Geo per large Carver Hatcher, and 12 Geo per small Dirtcarver.
    4. From the bench, travel left and get the first pair of Carver Hatchers to birth 5 minions each. Defeat them all, then move left and defeat the last 4 Carver Hatchers and their 20 minions.
    5. Defeat them all, then retreat to the bench. Rest to respawn enemies, then repeat the path. It’s that easy!

Whether you’re fully upgraded or not, this is an incredibly fast way to earn Geo. The second fastest place to earn Geo is the Coliseum of Fools, and the second stage of the arena is only available much later in the game. The early parts of the Deepnest should be available to you, and this (almost!) infinite supply of Geo should make the rest of the game much easier to handle. At least, you won’t run low on Geo anytime soon.
