Tomb Raider NVIDIA Crashes Fix Coming Soon

March 6, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

NVIDIA is working closely with the game’s developers to release a fix for all the crashes.

Tomb Raider players, or at least those with GeForce graphics cards from NVIDIA, have reported a host of crashing issues with the game, which was released just yesterday. The crashes seem to occur when players set the game's settings to maximum. The game runs fine, but it'll crash after 5-30 minutes of playtime.

NVIDIA staffers are aware of the problem and have written an official response on the GeForce.com forums to state that a new driver is currently in the works to fix the crashes.

According to NVIDIA, the company did not receive the game's final code until this past weekend, so they were unable to release a new driver in time for the game's release.

"We are aware of major performance and stability issues with GeForce GPUs running Tomb Raider with maximum settings," wrote ManuelG, a moderator on the forums. "Unfortunately, NVIDIA didn’t receive final code until this past weekend which substantially decreased stability, image quality and performance over a build we were previously provided. We are working closely with Crystal Dynamics to address and resolve all game issues as quickly as possible.

"In the meantime, we would like to apologize to GeForce users that are not able to have a great experience playing Tomb Raider, as they have come to expect with all of their favorite PC games."

Until a fix is released, workarounds are possible. Simply disable V-Sync and Tessellation in the game's graphics settings. Players running the game on an SLI set up should use the nVidia inspector tool (downloadable here) and set it up so that the TombRaider.exe executable in the game's installation directory on Steam is tied to the Hitman: Absolution game profile.
