Warhammer: Wrath of Heroes was developed by BioWare Mythic as a spinoff of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, offering team-vs-team arena battles. Designed as a "Play4Free" title, the game went into beta just over a year ago. However, EA has announced that they'll be shutting off its servers late next month, evidently due to a lack of interest in the game.
The game's termination was announced by its producer James Casey, who wrote a farewell letter to all of its players and stated that the time spent on the game was not a waste, as the game was only ever launched as an experiment.
"Launched in Beta just over a year ago, the free-to-play battle arena version of Warhammer Online was a grand experiment," he wrote.
"We were able to test new server technology, learn more about the free-to-play market, and engage in endless quick, down and dirty, three-way battles any time of day or night. On all of these fronts, we were able to make great inroads and insights and deliver a fast and frenetic game."
Players who've spent money on the game will not be able to receive any refunds for their gems, which will expire once the game ends. However, anyone who played the game between January 1 and February 27 will receive a promo code for Warhammer Online.
