THQ To Sell Off Remaining IPs Including Darksiders, Homeworld, Red Faction

February 27, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

You can finally own the rights to Homeworld, provided that you have enough cash.

As we all know by now, bits and pieces of THQ were sold off to the highest bidder last month in the form of an auction. But not every single IP was accounted for, and the fates of certain franchises is something their fans have long wondered.

Now former THQ President Jason Rubin stated around then that a follow-up process might take place to address the remaining back catalog in near future. Well, turns out, which time is now.

THQ has just revealed that all remaining IPs will be sold in the form via "a Court-supervised sale process", according to the press releases.

Initial bids are due April 1st, and final bids are due by April 15h. It was also stated that:

"THQ Inc. has received more than 100 expressions of interest in purchasing various titles; consequently, a vigorous sale is anticipated. The company has established a special clearinghouse at [email protected] for email questions about the forthcoming sales."

The interesting part is how everything is being clumped into six lots. The first four encompasses specific IPs, and includes every game produced in its respective series.

Lot 1 is basically the Red Faction lot. It includes parts 1, 2, Armageddon, and Guerrilla. Lot 2 is the Homeworld lot, and includes the original and the sequel.

Lot 3 is the MX lot and includes all eight entry in the sries, from MX Alive to MX vs. ATV: On The Edge. Lot 4 is the Darksider lot, and like lot 2, includes the original and the sequel.

Now, lot 5 is where things get interesting. It's filled with 40 different original properties, and includes everything from de Blob, Destroy All Humans, and Full Spectrum Warrior.

Whereas lot 6, the last one, is all their licensed properties. Again, it's a hodgepodge of randomness. Everything from You Don’t Know Jack, to various installments of Worms, even titles based upon Marvel Super Hero Squad and the game show Jeopardy. And don't forget the Double Fine produced Costume Quest.

Unlike the previous lots, it's assumed that the licenses are not include here. So you won't be able to make another Biggest Loser game, just republish the one that's already been produced. Sorry.

It'll be interesting to see if Platinum puts its money where its mouth is and indeed goes after the Darkrider license.
