The War Z Back On Steam For Some Reason

February 26, 2013 by Mathew Jones

It really shouldn’t be

Ugh.

The War Z isn’t very good.

It’s a hastily made attempt to cash in on the good will garnered by popular Arma 2 Mod Day Z. It features none of what made that game special or even interesting. It uses recycled assets from the developer’s previous game and adds zombies, doesn’t do enough to defend from game-breaking hacks and includes so many redundant mechanics.

There’s even a segment in it dedicated to offering the player microtransactions in a game they spent $15 for that doesn’t work properly. It’s a mess, explaining the 23 metacritic average it now holds.

It was also previously pulled from Steam due to claims of false advertising. Previously the game’s store page boasted that it featured massive maps of a size between 100 and 400 square kilometres and could support up to 100 players on any server. The truth was that the max player count was half this, there was only one map and the size suggested was more than overestimated. We couldn’t be clear if this was a suggestion of content planned for the future that didn’t reflect the current build, or if this was a series of purposefully inaccurate statements to trick an audience into paying.

The game’s now back on Steam missing the previously misleading information.

At least now complaints of false advertising will be unfounded. Complaints that the game isn’t very good, however, are covered by caveat emptor.

Please don’t buy this game. I don’t like to editorialise too often in news, but please don’t. Please Please Please.
