Sony Revises PlayStation 4 Developer List, Next-Gen ‘Dark Souls 2’ In Doubt

February 25, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Dark Souls 2 may not be coming to the PlayStation 4.

Dark Souls 2

Upon Sony’s announcement of the PlayStation 4, the company revealed a colossal list of developers committed to developing games for the next-generation console. These companies included the likes of Electronic Arts, Activision, and Ubisoft. Curiously, all three of these studios are no longer listed despite at least one of them—Ubisoft—pledging its support for the PlayStation 4 at Sony’s event announcing the console.

The new, revised list also omits smaller studios like Mojang and, in particular, From Software. The latter studio has been rumored to be working on Dark Souls 2 for the PlayStation 4, based on its presence on the original list. The fact that it no longer appears on the new list may suggest that the game is only coming out for current generation consoles.

However, given that the revised list also omits publishing giants that have already confirmed their support for the PS4, it’s safe to say that any speculation one might have based on either of these lists is rendered meaningless.

Here's the revised list:

  • Avalanche Studios
  • Blitz Games Studios
  • Bohemia Interactive
  • CD Projekt RED
  • Climax Studios
  • Hello Games
  • Just Add Water (Developments), Ltd.
  • Deep Silver
  • Lucid Games Ltd
  • MercurySteam
  • Ninja Theory Ltd
  • Nixxes Software BV
  • Paradox Interactive
  • Rebellion
  • Saber Interactive
  • Creative Assembly
  • IO Interactive
  • Starbreeze Studios
  • 2K Games
  • Team 17 Digital LTD
  • Yager
  • Zen Studios
  • keen games
  • Splash Damage
  • Stainless Games Ltd
  • Sumo Digital
  • Codemasters
  • TT Games

Perhaps Sony’s just playing mind games with its fanbase to prevent anyone from speculating too much into which studios are developing games for the next-gen console.
