Spelunky DLC Adding New Characters And Multiplayer Levels

February 22, 2013 by Mathew Jones

It’s a great game you should play, also, maybe download some things for?

Spelunky is one of the greatest games ever made. That’s no word of hyperbole. It’s so sharply designed while also retaining a smooth layer of simplicity. Even then, there’s enough depth that you’ll have a new experience every time you play and constantly learn new things about it.

I play a hour of this game every day. That’s a fact. I’ve been doing that since it was released and it’s still not gotten boring (on top of that? I’ve only ever finished it once).

Oh. Right. To actually make this post relevant and not just be a recommendation of an excellent game you should play (you should, go play it, go play it immediately), there’s some DLC coming out that adds more character choices at the start of the game. These characters are purely cosmetic, but they’re very cool looking. WIthin the 8 of them that your 160 MS Points can grab you the stand-out is the Robot, but the Ninja and the Monk look pretty great too.

There’s also some Arena DLC that adds new maps to the multiplayer deathmatch mode. That mode isn’t really the reason to play Spelunky, but, y’know, it’s additional content to an excellent game and if you feel like fleshing that out… here’s something that’ll do that for you.

If the development team at Mossmouth could do me a favour? Could you please keep giving me excuses to talk about Spelunky? Then I can tell people tricks like if you float onto spikes using the cape they won’t damage you? like how you can whip away arrows from traps if you get the timing right?

Spelunky… Spelunky’s pretty good, everyone.
