PlayStation 4 Will Have Social Aspects and Media Sharing

February 20, 2013 by Carli Velocci

Players can interact during gameplay, bringing backseat gaming to a whole new level

Sony Social Play Playstation 4

Sony announced at its live press event that the new PlayStation 4 will have social and media sharing capabilities that allow players to share game screenshots, and even gameplay.

The console's new compression and decompression systems allow for seamless upload and download of media, according to Mark Cerny, PlayStation 4's lead architect.

"Our goal is to make sharing a video as popular in the PlayStation 4 generation as the sharing of screenshots is today," he said.

That means that players can share video or photos with friends over the PlayStation Network by hitting share while playing a game, going to the select piece, and then uploading in the background while you play.

This also includes being able to spectate live streams of gaming from your friends or even celebrities who might be playing through UStream. Friends will also be able to look over your shoulder remotely and comment on your gameplay.  The emphasis is on real-world interactions, as Sony will also be transitioning to an online network based on real names, although you can still keep your aliases.

Social media junkies don't fret. You can also access many networks through your console including Facebook.

However, the most intriguing social aspect of the PS4 is the ability to take over your friend's game remotely through the console if they are having a hard time.
