China Accused of Feeding – Creates Unlicensed Eatery

February 20, 2013 by Cassandra Khaw

An Unlicensed League of Legends themed restaurant has opened in China.

In Chongquing, China, a resident has opened a restaurant called Demacia – a League of Legends themed restaurant that, as you may have learned to expect, did not come with Riot Games' endorsement –  . This isn't the first time something like this has happened. China has had a history of ignoring foreign licensing claims. A massive 48 million dollar World of Warcraft theme park in the Jiangsu province called Joyland World comes immediately to mind. Naturally, Blizzard wasn't involved either.

Demacia's staff have adorned themselves in champion-themed garb, with waitresses donning particular purple-and-yellow striped tall hats, straps of questionable function, and frilly miniskirts. Purportedly, the bar is being tended by a card-wielding gambler draped in red.

Describing a series of photographs compiled on mmoculture.com, Forbes contributor Paul Tassi writes:

“The restaurant serves League-themed dishes like deep fried Skarners, aka deep friend scorpions, a delicacy in parts of China, along with other champion-based meals and potion-based cocktails. The place is adorned in League art and gear, and there are stations set up to play the game while they dine. It looks quite fun, actually. Like a nerdy Hooters mixed with a LAN cafe.“

A local paper reported that the establishment, which the owner hopes to expand into other locations, cost about $160,000 USD to build. It remains to be seen if Riot Games will attempt any legal action.

If you're in the mood for some bootleg cuisine, stop on by next time you're in the area. Try the Teemo-themed steak – its mushroom sauce is to die for.
