Maybe it’s overdue, but that doesn’t make the news any less mournful. Weekly Rock Band DLC will be coming to an end over the next few weeks.
On their official blog Harmonix let us know today that there’s no DLC scheduled after April 2nd. During the time between then and now they'll be updating some older tracks to feature Pro Guitar functionality and add some content from artists that haven’t yet appeared in the game. After that, as revealed in an FAQ, they’ve non-specific plans to continue to support the game series, but aren’t clear in exactly what that entails and inform us that it won’t happen with any regularity.
Community Manager Aaron Trites states:
While we’re no longer actively pursuing content for release, we still have the technical capability should the right band and the right opportunity arise. We don’t have anything planned for release at the moment, but it’s not something we’ve ruled out.
Content for the service has been dripped out consistently over the course of 275 weeks and we’ve been given access to over 4,000 songs.
The blog cited “several new titles in development and developers needed to usher these new games along” as the cause for the switch off. They’ll continue to monitor and take part in their social feeds without any change.
Currently there’s a sale of 50% off more than a quarter of the total tracks available.
We at Gameranx invite everyone to throw on their favourite track tonight and try to remember a better time.
