Anodyne Is The Latest Game To Call Up The Pirate Bay For Help

February 18, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

And once again, those who torrent games are not such bad people after-all.

Game makers are forever waged in a seemingly never-ending war against piracy. No matter what solutions are come up with, certain parities always have a trick up their sleeves.

To the point that that those who suffer the most are people who play by the rules. Ask anyone who has had to deal with Ubisoft's and EA's DRM schemes.

Which is why some game makers have attempted to show goodwill towards those who frequent one of the world's most popular torrent sites, The Pirate Bay, where said game piracy of games is fairly rampant.

The developers of Anodyne are currently using it as a platform to promote their game. If you got to The Pirate Bay's splash page this moment, you'll see that it's currently calling itself The Promo Bay. You'll also find the following message:

“Hi, we're Jon Kittaka and Sean Hogan.

We'd like to make a living by making games that will give people memorable experiences, but we know not everyone can afford them. So that's why you can download a torrent of our game, Anodyne, and if you'd like and are able, also purchase the game!

We're also on Greenligt, trying to get onto Steam. So please consider giving us your vote!

– Sean and Jon"

This certainly isn't the first time in which torrent hotspot has been utilized in such a capacity. Another indie game, McPixel, did so last fall to great success. And more recently, a video game documentary did the same exact thing.

And as before, people have been paying for something that they might not have otherwise heard about, let alone cared about, if only to show their support for developesr that seemingly understands why some people download content for free. One has to believe that behind Kittaka and Hogan will be others.
