Dead Space 3 Launches at Number One in the UK Charts

February 11, 2013 by Jordan Erica Webber

But this launch was less successful than that of Dead Space 2

Dead Space 3 has made it to the top of the UK charts in its launch week, with – UKIE reports – the biggest launch of the year so far.

Unfortunately, that puts the success of Ni no Kuni into perspective; although the JRPG was also top of the charts when it launched last week, that may be less because JRPGs are finally finding a wider audience in the country and more because there wasn't really any serious opposition other than games that had been out for months. This week, Ni no Kuni has fallen to number six in the charts, below the two persistent favourites – FIFA 13 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 – and other gun-heavy games Far Cry 3 and Hitman: HD Trilogy. This falling through the ranks is due to a 63% drop in sales, which may partly be blamed on the lack of stock following the popular launch but is probably mostly to do with the fact that most who were interested in the game will have wanted it on release day.

As for Dead Space 3 itself, the successful launch has 360 players to thank, since 360 copies of the game made up 65% of the sales, compared with 56% of the sales for Dead Space 2. However, this launch was not as successful as that of its prequel, which also came into the charts at number one in its opening week, with sales 26.6% down on those of Dead Space 2.
