GTA V Has Shipped 85 Million Copies; Beats Wii Sports

November 8, 2017 by Jordan Coetsee

GTA becomes the ‘best selling game of all time’.

Rockstar Game’s zany open-world third-person shooter, GTA V has just hit an impressive milestone. According to Take-Two’s annual revenue report, the open-world action game has now shipped an astonishing 85 million copies since its launch in September 2013, that’s 5 million up since May this year.

This means that GTA V has officially overtaken Wii Sports in sales, taking the title of ‘Best Selling Game of All Time’ from the motion-based game (in terms of revenue, digital sales and physical sales in the US). What’s important to note is that Wii Sports was actually sold bundled with the Wii console, this means that a great deal of those sold copies were actually just game’s bundle with the standard console – while, GTA V is a standalone title.

Overall, Take-Two’s revenue for the quarter came to $443.6 million, up from $420.2 million during the same period last year. The company’s “recurrent consumer spending” category (which comprises virtual currency, DLC, and microtransactions), has also jumped by a considerable 66 percent.

‘Grand Theft Auto V for PC offers players the option to explore the award-winning world of Los Santos and Blaine County in resolutions of up to 4k and beyond, as well as the chance to experience the game running at 60 frames per second.

The game offers players a huge range of PC-specific customization options, including over 25 separate configurable settings for texture quality, shaders, tessellation, anti-aliasing and more, as well as support and extensive customization for mouse and keyboard controls. Additional options include a population density slider to control car and pedestrian traffic, as well as dual and triple monitor support, 3D compatibility, and plug-and-play controller support.’

GTA V is out now for PS4, PC and Xbox One.
