The Assassin's Creed series is far from over, as Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed today that the studio intends to release a new Assassin's Creed game in the coming fiscal year 2014—that's next year.
According to Guillemot, much will be changing with the series, as the upcoming game will feature an all new hero (or heroine) with a new team to support him or her. Furthermore, the game will explore a different time period than any of the previous games in the series.
Given how Assassin's Creed 3 ended, it should come as no surprise that the series needs a new protagonist and team to back him or her up.
"In financial 2014, we will introduce an all-new Assassin's Creed hero, within an all-new team and time period, and we expect it to be another major leap forward for the franchise," he said.
Guillemot made the comments during Ubisoft's investor earnings call today, where he declared the financial success of the previous title in the series—Assassin's Creed 3.
Unlike the previous games in the series, Assassin's Creed 4 will be developed by multiple teams, with each development team taking a designated chronological chapter within the game.
"It is the benefit of multiple teams, working on multiple chapters of the brand, each getting several years to make their versions of an Assassin's Creed game," said Guillemot of the endeavor.
Ubisoft's Guillemot says that the publisher intends to release more details on the upcoming game in the near future—potentially at the upcoming GDC or at E3 further down the line.
