Binding of Isaac Rebirth Art Preview Released

February 7, 2013 by Ian Miles Cheong

Edmund McMillen has posted a preview of the art in the upcoming remake of Binding of Isaac.

Edmund McMillen, the mind behind The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy has posted an update of the Binding of Isaac Rebirth on what he calls his "garbage dump", or personal blog.

The Binding of Isaac Rebirth is a remake of the game he released a couple of years back, and one he's currently working on bringing to the console and unannounced platforms with Nicalis. The new game is being developed from the ground up as a total remake, with features that the original Flash-based game couldn't possibly support.

In McMillen's latest update, he states that a large percentage of the existing assets of Binding of Isaac have been completed, and that the artist working on them is now making animation frames and visualizations for each head frame of every item. Once he's done with that, they'll be able to move on to creating all new content for Rebirth.

The developer posted an image, which you can see above, of the sprites they've cooked up thus far. It's looking a whole lot better than the original Binding of Isaac, which isn't to say that the original wasn't any good—it's just that these are much better and carry a pixelart aesthetic.

McMillen says he'll post more updates as they become available.
