Destiny 2’s Playercount Has Dropped By Over 2 Million Users Since Launch

October 21, 2017 by Jordan Coetsee

Destiny 2 isn’t keeping its players coming back for more.

Destiny 2 launched to critical acclaim a couple weeks back, promising fans everything they wanted from Destiny 1 and all its expansion back from the get-go. While during the first weeks the title had seemingly nothing slowing down the hype train, peaking at a total of 3.5 million concurrent players on September 17. Since then in just the last 30 days Destiny 2’s player base has plummeted by over 2 million users, with over 400,000 lost in the last two days.

The disappointing statistics come from Destiny Tracker, which monitors the player count of the FPS shooter. When we compare this to Destiny 1’s launch 14 October 2014 it had 3.2 million users, which it seemed to retain for quite some time. Granted the franchise was new and advertising was far more prominent than Destiny 2, but even so, Destiny 2 should, in theory, be retaining a similar amount of players if not more.

Most of the flak seems to be coming from the title’s lack of endgame content and replayability for hardcore players. Judging from what most Destiny 2 players have been saying, the players that moved over from Destiny 1 to Destiny 2 expected the same amount of flesh out endgame events for replayability that the DLC brought in but so far it seems like this hasn’t really been the case for the Destiny 2’s launch.

Hopefully, we’ll see expansions spike up the numbers in the future. Destiny 2 launches on PC next week on October 24.
