Medal of Honor Taken “Out of Rotation” by EA, Claims It Was an Obvious “Miss”

January 31, 2013 by Alex Co

Medal of Honor won’t be seeing a bi-yearly release anymore…read on as EA calls it an "obvious miss."

After two games in three years, the Medal of Honor franchise will once again go into hibernation. EA has announced that they are now taking the Medal of Honor franchise "out of rotation" after Warfighter's poor showing last year.

In an investor call earlier today, COO Peter Moore states, "We struggled with two challenges: the slowdown that impacted the entire sector and poor critical and commercial reception for Medal of Honor Warfighter," and added, "Medal of Honor was an obvious miss. The game was solid, but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers."

While Moore did think Medal of Honor Warfighter failed to live up to expectations, he did note that he thought "Critics were polarized and gave the game scores which were, frankly, lower than it deserved."

So, what happens next to EA's two-pronged attack to take down reigning miltiary FPS champ Call of Duty? Moore wouldn't say, but he did reveal that they have a plan to bring "year-over-year continuity" to their shooter offerings even without the MoH series.

For now, it's unknown if Medal of Honor studio Danger Close will be closed down, will be suffering layoffs or if they're working on a new game not associated with the Medal of Honor franchise.

Does this mean we should expect a Battlefield game every year? I honestly doubt that will happen, but with EA, you never know. If I were to hazard a guess as to which game might replace Medal of Honor's spot, I'd say maybe whatever Respawn is cooking up? That studio would fit well since they have a ton of experience in AAA shooters, not to mention they have that two-year development cycle down pat, too.
