Rockman Xover’s Localization Put On Hold Due To Overwhelming Negative Fan Feedback

January 30, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

Even the biggest Mega Man nut out there wants nothing to do with his 25th anniversary game.

As noted time and time again, Mega Man fans have had it rough. The recently released sanctioned Street Fighter X Mega Man has certainly been the first step towards winning back the trust of disfranchised Capcom supporters, but they still have a ways to go.

While rebooting Mega Man Legends 3, which is what everyone really wants, is still not happening, Destructoid reports something that should make disgruntled Blue Bomber fans happy nonetheless: the American release of Rockman Xover has been put on hold.

According to Capcom Senior VP Christian Svensson:

"Based upon the largely negative feedback from MM fans, I've requested that we place any Americas release on hold for the time being. We will revisit at a later date."

For those who are unfamiliar, Rockman Xover is the free-to-play social RPG in Japan for iOS title that was produced as a way for the publisher to celebrate Mega Man (or Rockman, in his native Japan)'s 25th birthday. And an awful one at that.

Forget how hardcore gamers, the type to gravitate towards Mega Man games, are completely disgusted by stuff that their moms would play, like a free-to-play social RPG for iOS.

Adding insult to injury is how, when you take all the nonsense that's designed to casual gamers (the type who could care less about the license, which makes the endeavor all the more pointless), the concept of a brand new form of Mega Man, to combat the combined talents of bad guys spanning several different series, Xover sounds pretty damn cool.

Also, the game looks absolutely horrible. Just look at that screenshot above; it's like a poorly made fan game made in Flash, circa 2004. Except it's very much an official thing. At any rate, even the most diehard of Mega Man fans on this side of the ocean would be perfectly happy if they never got the chance to experience Rockman Xover.
