Project X Zone Is Actually Coming To America

January 21, 2013 by Matt Hawkins

So let’s just hope it’s actually good.

When Project X Zone was first revealed to the world, everyone began salivating at the idea of playing a game in which the universes of Namco Bandai, Capcom, and Sega all converged. Yet everyone outside of Japan simply assumed that such a thing would come to their neck of the woods. Especially since similar, earlier efforts like Namco × Capcom were never localized either.

Which is why word of Project X Zone's scheduled release in outside territories earlier this morning took everyone by surprise. The game will be coming out in North America, Europe, Australia, and Latin America, courtesy of Namco.

Only the text is being translated; the original Japanese voice acting will remain intact, which is good news for pretty everyone who cares about such things.

For those who aren't aware of what Project X Zone actually is, it's a crossover tactical role-playing game that dips heavily into the catalogues of all three companies involved.

On the Capcom side, you have familiar faces from the Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Mega Man camps. From Sega, there's characters representing Virta Fighter, Space Channel 5, and Valkyria Chronicles. Finally, from Namco Bandai, you have reprentatives from Tekken, Xenosaga, and Super Robot Wars. To name a few.

Time for the not so great news: those who have played its successor, the aforementioned Namco × Capcom (either in its native tongue, or via the fan-translated version) was not very good. So hopefully this latest edition will fix all those wrong.

Though one thing is for certain; Project X Zone will be heavy on the fan service. Which is good news for some, but not so much for others. Hopefully its not to an intolerably annoying degree.
